You could see various warning lights while driving⚠⚠
You already know something, but have you ever passed it without knowing the exact meaning?
Have you ever been more panic by the warning lights
in the case of a rental car that you are not familiar with the car model?
Today I am going to explain the meaning of this warning light.
Although it may vary depending on the car companies and models,
but it has usually similar design, so please refer to it.
There are three types of warning lights: red, yellow, and green.
If the temperature is high or low, it can be identified as
“red = high temperature” and “blue = low temperature”.
This is determined by the international standard (ISO) and has the meanings of
"red = dangerous", "yellow = caution" and "green = safe".
If the red and yellow lamps light on, please take easy and take the following actions.
Even if it lights on or flashes, it is not abnormal if it turns off soon.
However, if the same symptom occurs repeatedly, please contact our sales office.
■Yellow warning light■
ABS warning light
It indicates a function in ABS or the Brake Assist system.
It is not abnormal to light on with a brake on a slippery road such as a snowy road.
If it is lit on the normal road surface without brakes, the system or sensor may be faulty.
※In this case, there is no problem with normal brake operation.
Check Engine or Malfunction Indicator Light
It indicates a malfunction in the electronic engine control system,
or the electronic continuously variable transmission control system.
If failing to investigate the cause of this warning
may lead to the system operating abnormally and possibly cause an accident.
Please restart the engine and contact the sales office if it does not go out.
Low fuel level warning light
It indicates that remaining fuel is low.
It will need a refill immediately.
Remaining fuel is vary
※When lit, the remaining amount of fuel varies depending on the car model.
Especially pay attention to the remaining amount of gas when using the expressway.
Traction Control Light
It indicates when the vehicle's traction control/anti-skid
or electronic stability system is in use.
Usually an indicator that conditions are slippery.
It could be malfunction if light will lights on while driving a dry, normal road surface.
Electric Power Steering warning light
It indicates a malfunction in the EPS (Electric Power Steering) system.
If the system fails, the steering could go heavy,
meaning more effort will be needed to make the car change direction.
Please restart the engine and contact the sales office if it does not go out.
PCS warning light
※PCS：Pre-Collision System
It indicates a malfunction in the PCS (Pre-Collision System)
or that the system is temporarily unavailable due to the vehicle being extremely hot/cold,
or dirt around a front sensor, etc.
→Follow the instructions displayed on the Multi-Information Display.
※If the PCS (Pre-Collision System) or VSC (Vehicle Stability Control) system is disabled,
the PCS warning light will illuminate.
■Red warning light■
Driver's and front passenger's seat belt reminder light
It warns the driver and/or front passenger to fasten their seat belts.
But all passengers are required to wear seat belts.
Door Ajar warning light
It indicates that a door (including hood and trunk) is not closed.
Do not drive with the warning light on.
When lit while driving, immediately stop a car at a safe place,
and check that all doors and the trunk are closed.
Brake system warning light
It indicates that parking brake is on,
or problem with the braking system/brake fluid is low.
Usually when the light turns off after the parking brake is fully released,
the system is operating normally.
Low engine oil pressure warning light
It indicates that the engine oil pressure is too low.
If this light stays lit, immediately check oil level and pressure.
Battery/Charging system warning light
It indicates a malfunction in vehicle’s charging system.
This warning indicates the possibility of damage to the vehicle that may lead to an accident.
Immediately stop the vehicle in a safe place.
Hybrid system fault warning light
It indicates a malfunction in hybrid system.
As the name suggests, this is a warning light that is only available on hybrid vehicles.
The whole hybrid vehicle is made like a precision instrument.
If there is an abnormality somewhere, it may be judged as
“unable to drive due to an abnormality”.
Please stop a car immediately in a safe place as it could lead to a serious accident.
Immobilizer warning light
It indicates that immobilizer system of the antitheft device is operating.
When the engine switch is turned ON with the registered electronic key,
the system is released and turns off.
※It is not abnormal when the warning light turns on with the engine off.
Coolant Temp warning light
It indicates engine temperature has exceeded normal limits.
If you notice this light, stop the car immediately,
as running hot for too long can lead to total engine failure.
Master warning light
It indicates that the master warning system has detected a malfunction.
It is accompanied by another warning light and indicates
that one or more warning systems have been detected.
If the warning light turns on,
you may be worried that “Is it a malfunction?”
But if you know the meaning of the warning light on the car in advance,
you will be able to respond to sudden lighting.
